Our Editors

Katherine Ervin

I’m lucky to spend my days working with my favorite people: writers! For ten years, I’ve assisted hundreds of writers with developmental, line, and copy editing. I hope to work with you soon!

My interests lay primarily in fantasy, science fiction, and romance. I’m drawn to stories with whimsy, adventure, and color. I enjoy dark themes with hopeful messaging. I have a soft spot for LGBTQ+ characters and mean women. I love to see mixed genres and forms.

I’ve taught creative writing at the University of Central Florida and Full Sail University, served as a first reader for Lightspeed Magazine and Parsec Inc., worked as a graduate teaching assistant at the Florida Review, and judged the Raw Dog Screaming Press Reader’s Choice Awards.

I have worked as a developmental, line, and copy editor for several years, providing editing services to both publishers and independent authors.

I am a member in good standing with the Editorial Freelancers Association, an organization of professionals who provide a wide range of editing services. I graduated with an MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida, and am an alumna of the Alpha Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Workshop for Young Writers.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with hundreds of writers over the last decade as a developmental, line, and copy editor. I’d love to partner with you on your writing journey.

My interests include fantasy, urban fantasy, science fiction, and romance, and I have a special interest in stories with LGBTQ+ characters. I’ve always had a soft spot for supernatural fiction, particularly in an urban fantasy setting. As a queer person, I suspect this is because I felt different from the people around me, and I love the intersection between humanity and monstrosity and all the shades of gray an author can explore. Across all genres, I enjoy stories with complicated family dynamics, fraught romance, and complex characters who make mistakes. Call me Marie Kondo because I love mess.

I received my BA in Creative Writing from the University of South Florida and my MFA in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida. I taught English Language and Writing at Kansai Gaidai University in Japan and Creative Writing at the University of Central Florida. I was an Assistant Editor at The Florida Review and Aquifer, and I was Fiction Editor at Olit literary magazine, where I worked with authors to realize their visions for many years. If you write in the above genres and think we’d be a good fit, please reach out! I’d love to hear your story.
