Developmental Editing

Developmental editing offers story-level feedback on craft topics, such as plot structure, pacing, and character development. This will be delivered in the form of comments and a letter. Up to three follow-up email consultations are included.

Line Editing

Line editing is all about optimizing the prose, with sentence-level concerns such as word choice, syntax, style, clarity, and eliminating unnecessary words. These changes should match rather than change the voice of the author. Line edits will be delivered in the form of tracked changes for the client to review.

Copy editing

Copy editing services include correcting grammatical and typographical errors, pointing out continuity issues, and fact checking. This will come in the form of tracked changes and comments.

Book Coaching

This flexible service is designed to meet the needs of individual clients during the drafting and editing process. Generally, it takes the form of a virtual meeting to brainstorm or discuss process/productivity, plot holes, craft questions, etc. We’re also happy to act as an accountability partners for our book coaching clients.

We offer all three editing services, but not at the same time. This is really for the client’s sake; the developmental editor should never be the same person as the copy editor, due to the likelihood of overlooking errors. However, we can bundle line editing with either developmental or line editing services.

Rates

Developmental and Line Editing: $0.035 per word

Developmental Editing: $0.03 per word

Line and Copy Editing: $0.025 per word

Copy Editing: $0.02 per word

Book Coaching: $60/hr

AI Policy: We do not edit AI-generated manuscripts or long passages of text. We do not use AI to edit client works.
